Rhythmic Movement Disorder - will it stop?

My DT2 has had this since he was 8 months (now 2.5) and it has a big effect on his sleep - he's chronically sleep deprived as a result of rocking on his hands and knees when he wakes at night.

I read online that NT children usually grow out of it by age 3 but there's no mention of this happening with children who have asd. Or at least I can't find any evidence.

Does anyone have experience of it stopping? Or is my poor boys sleep ruined forever? Sad

Anyone?

I know some children are head bangers which is still a rhythmic movement disorder. Any luck on the head banging coming to an end?

My ds was a head banger, started at about 9months and went on till about 3.5 yrs old.

He would also headbutt things out of frustration.

Thanks enterthedragon, it's awful at the time but how great that your ds has grown out of it now. Gives me some hope for my DT.
