Constant negative comments

How do others deal with the constant negative comments about their child? My lovely dd is having a tough time at school at the moment. School have admitted they can't meet her needs and we are looking for new specialist . However, all I seem to get are negatives about her. At meeting the other day class teacher told me another parent had complained about my dd. I didn't ask for this info and I can hardly see why it was volunteered, other than to make me feel more like shit. Seriously, do people literally have no idea how it feels to hear constantly crap comments about your child? How do you cope with this?

Hi Cansu
Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. It sounds like it's definitely the wrong school if they are so negative - so it's good you are going elsewhere.

We had a lot of patents complain about DS at the beginning of this year (before he got the support he now has). I found it very hard. Plus he had a home school diary which was pretty much a negative list of everything he'd done wrong, no positives at all!

We're in a better place now (I don't have as much direct contact with his class teacher now, it's the SENCO and head and 1-2-1 who are all far more supportive and positive, his class teacher is just one of life's negative people).

I think you just have to strap your virtual armour on, know your DD's strengths and how with the right support she will flourish and the new school will be the start of a positive chapter for you and hopefully the end of all the negativity.

How about looking at it this way? Take each negative comment and show how that means school are not supporting your dd.
That another parent has noticed and complained should really raise their awareness level of their own failings in support.

Every time you hear a negative, look on it as highlighting a failure to support her, not a criticism of your dd.

Thank you. You are both absolutely right. I am counting the days until she is out of there.
