Time for another

With lots of new posters joining the SN board I thought it might help if we all introduce ourselves. I keep forgetting who's who too. (Try saying that after a few drinks! )

I'll start:

I have 3 children. My 2 boys are aged 6yrs and 3yrs and both have a diagnosis of high-functioning autism. Dd is 8mths old (or "isn't a number yet" as ds1 says ) and so far seems very NT.

If you leave me here in the Unanswered Threads section I shall plague you all with Davros' favourite poetry.

Oooh 'eck! Sounds like I'm ordering drinks or planning another baby or something. The title should read Time for another introductions thread.

Hi all. My 6 year old ds has a diagnosis of ASD. He's currently at mainstream with 1 : 1 support, but sadly he's not doing too well at the moment, life is pretty tough for him. ....oh .........and I'm getting broody, but got to hurry up, my old biological clock it fast ticking by

Welcome to all all the new posters

eidsvold · 15/11/2006 10:40

macwoozy I am 38 - will be turning 39 when no3 is 6 months old....

2Shoes · 15/11/2006 10:48

I am 45 and have a 14yr old ds(nt) and an 11yr old dd who has afetoid cp(think i have spelt it wrong)
I have been happily(LOL) married for 17 yrs
dd is at an sn school and has her respite there as well.
I don't work! as have no child care if dd is ill(like today)
oh and both dh and dd have epilepsy.

macwoozy · 15/11/2006 10:58

eidsvold, I'm just a year younger, though I told ds that I'm a good few years younger than that as he's got this annoying habit of constantly telling others how old I am, and I can't be having that

Saker · 15/11/2006 11:12

I have two sons, Ds1 is NT and 7 years old and Ds2 has SN and is 5 years old. Ds2 doesn't have any diagnosis but has a lot of dyspraxic/ sensory integration type symptons (problems with motor skills and interpretating info from his surroundings and body). He also has speech and language delays and difficulties with communication (possibly autistic type tendencies).
He goes to a special needs unit attached to a mainstream school. We are running an RDI (relationship development integration) programme for him at home.

sphil · 15/11/2006 11:49

Hi all
I have two boys, 5 and 4. DS1 is either NT, quirky or mildly AS/dyspraxic depending on which day of the week it is . DS2 has ASD - not sure where he is on spectrum. Severely language delayed but starting to use single words more spontaneously. Doing a Growing Minds programme with him at home (combination of ABA and Son-Rise type approaches) - in an amateur way atm but starting their Distance Training in March. ABA has been a revelation!
Live in Sussex but moving to Somerset next year so that DS2 can go to a local special school, rather than one 45 mins drive away as would be the case if we stayed here.

Fattymumma · 15/11/2006 11:54

theheadlessgirl · 15/11/2006 12:49

Hi everyone - just to join the band wagon, also thought copper top was hoping to extend her family!
I'm a single mum, work 2 days a weeks, and have 3 beautiful (if cocky) DDs
DD1 is 11 and is as tall as me (NT)
DD2 is 9, very clever, just learning the violin - help me, please! (NT)
DD3 is 6, likes eating and dancing (has downs syndrome, and autism) She has no speech, but occasionally signs and does picture exchange. She is going to a wonderful special school, so named I think cos of the imaginative, wonderful teachers working there. I love going to visit to see what she's up to. They made pumpkin soup for Harvest Festival, and are having crazy hair day for children in need on Friday.
Hi to everyone xx

r3dh3d · 15/11/2006 14:04

Hi there;

I'm 40, and am going back to work from mat leave in January (but working from home). Married for 5 years.

I have 2 DD's

DD1 is 2 1/2 and has galactosaemia, hemimegalencephaly, mesiotemporal sclerosis, Severe Epilepsy, GDD, ADD and assorted visual probs. (diagnoses subject to change without notice, watch this space) She is a snugglepuss.

DD2 is coming up to 11 months and is NT and turning into a Proper Little Madam. She starts full-time at nursery when I go back to work. Heaven help them.

DD1 is part-time at a nursery for SLDs at which I am a parent governor, so it is (of course) excellent! . She also has a SN nanny and realistically will continue to need one till she is in full-time education.

theheadlessgirl · 15/11/2006 14:32

Ahh, r3dh3d, sod those other diagnoses - "snugglepuss" is fantastic and is the one to stick with! I am making it my word of the day!

emmalou78 · 15/11/2006 14:48

Hi everyone I am one of the new posters.
43 married DS1 9 recently DX dyslexia with dyspraxic traits, DS2 6 DX HF/ASD but really I feel he has aspergers syndrome, also in mainstream primary with 1.1 support, which only started in Sept. So far going really well, but last year was dreadfull, so keeping my fingers crossed. Actually keeping my legs crossed as well as I certainly don't want another baby!

caroline3 · 15/11/2006 14:56

Hi all you lovely ladeez, I am 41, single, work PT. I have dd aged 9, NT but can be a real handful and ds 6 with AS and ADD. He is in mainstream but finds it very hard at times. Fighting to try and get the right level of support for him. Trying not to let the b**s get me down and find this site so helpful and reassuring.

Bumblelion · 15/11/2006 17:31

Hi, probably mentioned before but am a single mum (although now got a lovely boyfriend - but somehow still think of myself as a "single mum"), will be 40 in June (not that I am counting).

Work part-time for the same company for 20 years - 2 days in the office and 2 days at home.

Got 3 beautiful children - DD1 nearly 14 (boy, do I know that!!!), tall as me, slimmer than me, bigger boobs than me - too much information?

DS1 - 9 - middle child but only boy (for those who watched Middle Child Syndrome). Gorgeous, adorable, lively, boisterous - typical boy.

DS2 - just turned 5 - Sotos Syndrome - nearly as tall as her elder brother, nearly same size shoe - very, very tall for her age (well, she is not as tall as others with the same condition but then I am only 5'4" and her dad is only 5'8" - if we were both taller, she would be a lot taller than her peers).

Goes to mainstream school, with 1:1 help. Is sociable, outgoing, friendly, lovable, adorable. Few issues (have been there since birth) like global delayed development but wouldn't change her for the world. Has had lots of help and support through the years from various therapists(since before the diagnosis) but all I wish is for her (well, all my children actually) to be the "best" she can (although her "best" may not be the accepted norm).

UniSarah · 15/11/2006 17:41

I'm dyslexic, ds is only 8m/o no idea if he will have sn as he grows up or not, but lots of dydlexia on both sides of family. I'm interested in ASD after working at a school with children with ASD and or language disorders. Interested in ADHD as nephew suffered fetal narcotic syndrome. Interested in CP as neice has CP. Interested in Deaf issues as BSL is my 2nd language.

KarenThirl · 15/11/2006 19:04

OK, I'm joining in.

I'm 45 (eek, don't remind me), married with a DS who is 8 today, dx'd with Aspergers in July this year. He's struggling in a crap mainstream with no support, bless 'im. I haven't worked since shortly after J was born as I have ME, which certainly makes things interesting.

Don't post on MN as much as I'd like - life's a bit too hectic for playing with the internet these days - so this is a welcome thread to get to know some of the people I've not come across much. Thanks CT.

2mum · 15/11/2006 19:10
