ASD testing

Hi all i did a post about severe speech delay for my 3 and half yr old son , we have had some development , we had an appointment with his pediatrician last week , she had to cancel seeing him as she was ill but well enough to talk to me over the phone about my concerns that i regarding my son as he is not developing as he should and he is about a yr and half behind , with nearly all his development including his walking , running and he is isnt like a 3 and half yr old ,

She has said we are going for ASD testing which i am really happy but nervous about as well as not sure what is going to happen, he is leaving his childminder in July and getting ready to start nursery in September as he will be 4 in September and the following yr he starts school then

i have had a really bad couple of days , feeling alone and really struggling i had a complete meltdown on Tuesday really bad couldn't do this any more i spoke to the docs and he gave me something to calm me and to help me sleep as not been sleeping as i just keep worry about my little man and i am no good to all the other children , i have 5 children , i have DS 1 is 12 yrs, DS 2 is 10yrs , DD 1 is 8yrs , DD 2 is 7yrs and my little one having all the problems is my DS 3 is 3 and half

so trying to keep it together for the kids which is really hard to do

Aw, that all sounds really hard. Especially with the other kids needing your attention too.

If it is any help, I also started wondering about my son around aged 3.5/4 and was fobbed off by doctors over and over again. He is 10 now and we have just had to fork out for a private assessment as no one with expertise would actually observe him.

So, I know it is stressedfull (I have had a bad few weeks) but I am so desperate for some proper help with him now. He is still my lovely little boy, so wonderful and gorgeous and sweet. So is your little boy. No one is changing him, but they might be able to explain him and help him.

No one can predict the future, but you might get better signposts if he has a proper assessment. It is good that you are getting help.

Not knowing what's next is hard. Asd testing can only be a good thing.

I have one boy who no one every listened to my concerns. I literally fight for every step with him.

My toddler was diagnosed at 3 and I don't need to battle for him. There is so much help for him, none of which I had with my elder boy.

I have a larger family too, which in itself can be hard work. Ask for help if you need it. Do you have home start near you?

My son is 4 and awaiting an autism diagnosis. It hasn't been a quick process.

He's been seeing speech therapists and a paediatrician since he was 2.5-3 who thought it was just a general speech delay which it isn't.

The ball got rolling when he started at a new pre-school and they had concerns. They referred him to the local senior senco, an educational psychologist and an autism worker. He's still awaiting an appointment for an occupational therapist.

From what I've been told all the reports from these professionals will be put together and a decision will be made which can take ages. But my sons case is difficult. He has many of the signs but hasn't got quite a few of the common signs. For example he is very cuddly and affectionate and doesn't have any odd movements such as hand flapping and tip toe walking!

I have just done the DLA form , my portage worker helped me fill it in as she knew what to put in the form , also , i have now got a home start volunteer to help me take my little boy to groups as he can have big melt downs

Home start are amazing people. I literally bend my volunteers ear about the boys sen. It's nice just have a listening non judgmental ear.
