How much to pay PA from direct payments

Hello all,

This is my first post so apologies if this is on the wrong page.
We have just been given OK for direct payments. We have found a TA from school whose willing to do a couple of hours each week. Just not sure how much to pay her per hour? We are in London and my dd is severely disabled. Any thoughts please? from what i heard from parent apparently TA s in school get paid £11-12 per hour for extra work time in crèche for example - not sure whther this is correct info though.

we pay here £9 per hour - it also I guess depends what your LA direct payment rate is as they do vary across the country

It's £8 an hour where i live and the rate is set by the LA so you can't pay any extra. Your LA should have given you an idea of what to pay.

My friend pays £9.50 per hour for her son who is very lively. I pay £10 per hour.

You will be given an amount per hour from your local authority. That amount will cover holiday pay, tax, NI, etc. You will need an accountant or direct payment manager company to sort out all of this.
The pa will end up probably £2 an hour or so less than you are being given.

It's 8.73 here but we get 11.17 to cover holiday pay and sick pay etc

Yes you will be told what to pay.

LA should add on the payroll company costs.
we couldn't find anyone for the DP rate here so eventually the LA upped the rate to the local agency rate (£16 ph) -as that was what it would have cost the LA to provide the service.
But the basic rate is about £9 before tax & NI have to be taken off.
You can do the tax & NI yourself without a payroll co but it is a faff - but sometimes its worth it if you aren't using people every week as often payroll companies want paying weekly even if you don't use someone every week.
The LA should send out a DP worker to explain it all.
