SEN Discrimination

This local thread was generated by a front-page article in a local newspaper ´It´s discrimination´ about a school Headteacher refusing to admit a boy into a new school with a statement of SEN.

The reasons given for not accepting the boy are particularly shocking.

Perhaps informed people here would like to add their comments to the local debate.

If I'd been the editor I'd have told the journo to go and do a bit of research into SEN admissions procedure before publishing. It's the council that makes the decision not the school. The council can only justify specialist provision by first proving it would be unreasonable use of public expenditure to go mainstream, as per the SEN code of practice. Surprised the SEN caseworker didn't explain that effectively to the mother. Feel sorry for the kid, having his name and details trawled through the papers.
