DMO/Lycra suits??

I saw a rep for DMO suits today and feel like my little boy would really benefit. He is two with such low tone in his core he can't sit and has a very curved spine. I am just wondering what people's experiences are with these good and bad. Also does anyone know who would fund it charity-wise? The quote given was over £600, no way I could fund it myself.

Hello, my ds has a DMO suit, issued by the physio/OT department - is your boy under these therapists, as they may be able to assess whether he would be suitable.

With ds it does help his posture, but he hates wearing it, and it has become a real battleground.

There are a lot of charities, but many won't fund for something that should be provided by the NHS.

If possible I would talk to his therapists first to see if he is a suitable candidate. Most charities will want to have a letter saying how the equipment asked for would help the recipient from a therapist, so worth approaching them anyway.

If you want to go down the charities route, I will dig out my list.

Thanks for taking time to reply. Our physio and OT agree my Son is the ideal candidate, indeed they arranged the meeting with the rep. We can't get NHS funding in our area though so they have told us it is self-funding or charity route. If you could recommend charities likely to fund that would be great. My friend in the same boat has already approached newlife who have turned her down.

Have you tried family fund? Or cerebra?

My dd (3yrs with Cp) has a Lycra vest but we also got ours via our NHS Physio.

I have mixed opinions on it. DD is happy to wear it and it has improved her postural control in standing massively, however, for some unknown reason she seems to struggle in sitting whilst wearing it Confused. Without she sits really well (now), with only the very occasional topple but in the vest she seems to be so much more restricted that she finds it harder to correct herself and wobbles over more? Although the more she wears it, the better she gets so maybe it will be an adjustment thing? but she seems to sit far more naturally without Iyswim?
If you can the funding I would certainly give it a go. Good luck
