Does anyone else's child do this?

My ds is 6.5 and has asd and add.
He has recently started taking clothes from all the draws and throwing them on top of the cupboard repeatedly. He can do this for about an hour and a half and gets upset if you disturb him or stop him and shoos you away.
I'm at a loss as to how to stop this behaviour but also find out why he's doing it.
He's non verbal and it seems to calm him.
I move it the next day when he's at school but he comes home and carries on, even grabbing anything to climb up and throw on to the pile.
Help!

I have mild asd and can sometimes esp as child just 'know' that something should be a certain way or in a certain place. Have you ever tried just leaving them there and seeing what he does, if he just leave them can you just have a plastic box up ther for his clothes?

Or of course is could be the repetative action of throwing them and getting the satisfying result of the high pile of clothes combined with the adrenalin rush of the exercise of throwing them up. In which case could you try and repalce it with kicking a ball at a target, throwing a velcro ball, or something simiar.

I just wandered if it was an anxious response.
