Autism advisory service observation

The observation is for a fifteen minute playtime and fifteen minute class time, then a meeting with me ( and possibly dh if he can get the time off, but unlikely)

What is the protocol in these circumstances? Do I rock up at her obs time and ask her to watch certain things? What shod be on my list of questions for her? This is the first obs he has had so this is all new, and it was a fight to get this obs done! School say no social issues and have pulled social skills one to one but he is apparently doing group work. They say that it will only work if he applies it but knew all the theory ( but he can't apply it!!) I somehow want to get that into the meeting as well.

I was going to say the same as polter, I would be finding a phone number or email address and introducing myself politely and explaining my concerns!

Especially if school are not seeing what you see. Over the years I have spoken to all the proffs invloved with Dd3 directly usually prior to meetings at school.

School will most likely only invite you for the meeting after the obs, they will say that you being there during the obs will change the behaviour of your child!

You are lucky to at least have an advisory team, I hope they are helpful.

I did see she was at a support group recently and spoke to her briefly there. She was asked in by the school and I didn't know about it. When I asked her if I was allowed to be there we miraculously got a scribbles note regarding her appointment and an invitation to meet afterwards.. The afternoon if me speaking to her! In another letter from the school since there was a veiled barb referencing this so I know they are stalking watching what I say and to who. I have gotten in 'trouble' before for attending a support group and talking to my mates about the school and ds. So I would love to email but I do t think it would go down too well!

I am also petrified she will 'see nothing' and back the school up. :(

She also knows btw that the relationship between me and the school is not the best.

If there is good reason to not have a great relationship with the school I have still found it possible to have a good working relationship with out side professionals.

I recently contacted an EP who had been told that we did not want our Dd to be seen in school which was completely untrue and hopefully a mistake.

After a phone call and a follow up email she was in school seeing Dd3 within a fortnight!

I always try to keep a good relationship with outside proffs as they are the people who carry most wieght and actually they are the ones that can support you in your battle with the school.

It doesnt always work but is worth a try.
