Hello everyone...

Posting after a while.

I have a 5 yr old ASD girl on the low-functioning end of the spectrum.

Among other things we are struggling to teach her phonics and numbers. She is able to match them. But cant label them. We use ABA.. I have done all of the error less teaching. I have tried different material too.

The consultant has also tried various methods.

She can match small words to words.. can find letters on a scrabble board. But cant point to 'ah' or 'buh'

I just think her brain isnt ready for the whole sound-letter association. Has anyone faced this issue? How did you resolve it?

Thanks
SA

Do you think she is ready? Iirc, you posted about this before and it seems you tried for a long time.

I really would consider putting this on hold and getting back to it at a later date and rather focussing on targets that are more meaningful for your DDS at this moment time.

Agree with zzzzz, would give something like the above toy a go. We had in the past some surprising successes with these.

Do you think reading is within her reach anytime soon ? Both in terms of decoding words and understanding what she is reading?

I think it is important that the target you are working on is really meaningful IYSWIM.
