Hi,

Has anyone experience of "attached upper lift frenulum"?

I've just noticed my daughter has this - its quite prominent. Ive been reading and it can be linked to speech delay, and normally resolves itself when the child falls over an splits it.
My daughter has CP and doesnt walk so isnt going to be falling over anytime soon!

An advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

My DS2 has an upper lip tie and a significant speech delay. But I've known other children with it who've had no speech problems at all. DS has been seen by a SALT who has said it's not causing his speech problems and he's got no problems using his mouth/making the right shapes.

Can you link to what you've read at all? I'd be interested to see.

Hi HHH3 - i cant seem to link to it, sorry.
I'm going to raise it with my DD's dentist and paediatrician. Personally, I'd rather get it looked into now, so it can be eliminated from what is causing the speech delay. We've also had delays with drinking and feeding, although she can now feed herself,we've really struggled to get her off teats and onto hard sippy cups. She struggles to drink out of a beaker too.

We are seeing SALT tomorrow so i will mention it then.

Will be interested to hear what the SALT says. Would you mind updating?

My ds had this, and split it when he fell forwards (before he walked) and hit his face on a cooker (lots of blood). He still had feeding difficulties (aspirated needed thickened liquids, couldn't chew) and is still largely non verbal now at nearly 5. I'm afraid it didn't make much difference to him.

HHH3 - SALT had never heard of it. She was going to mention it to a colleague, but as that is our last SALT session for a while - I doubt i'd hear back.
We've got appointments coming up with Peadiatrician and ENT and dentist - so i'll ask all of them in turn about it.

Thanks hazeyjane - i dont really want to leave it until she falls - incase that doesnt happen. I've looked again and its quite prominent.
