I'm a long-time lurker, occasional poster and feel sick at the letter DS has just brought home from school. Have changed some details in this post to protect ID

He is in y5, has DX of ASD, and has significant sensory processing difficulties. Had varying levels of support in MS, ranging from bloody marvellous to downright fucking awful, but schools are dreadfully over-crowded in the area, and since DS is highly academic, school will not support assessment for EHCplan or previously a statement.

The letter says the trust is applying to open a free special school.

One of the schools in the trust was picked up by recent OFSTED report for not pushing pupils with SEN enough. The free school is to be linked to this existing one.

Have you applied for EHCP yourself?
It is a good time to start looking at secondary schools that you think will work for dc, and if you have/get and EHCP then your school preference gets a lot more weight.
