Question about Bibic pls

Hi, I browse on this board regularly, and some time ago read about some of you going to Bibic, that caught my attention and so I looked for they website and eventually contacted them regarding my son. They were quick to reply, and it sounds very interesting, and could be really helpfull; my son is autistic, verbal, although does not always make sense, has quite a temper, can be very non-compliant and has sensory disfunctions for sure. I have been unable to find help through NHS for sensory issues, the OT told me it was common and basically she could not do anything for him.... Anyway, I am interested in Bibic because it looks like they could really help me in re-organise myself as far as my son is concern and help me help him, if you see what I mean., in many areas.. sorry am foreign so sometimes I am unclear. So, all this to say, that, it sounds great, however, I am raising my son on my own these days and need to know from whoever has used Bibic services, if their programms are do-able wihtout any support at all (I ain't got a soul around to help me, not being dramatic, but no family around and a couple of friends, who can't really help). I guess it is up to me really, but I ain't no super-woman and at the moment am very short tempered but also desperate to make changes for the better. Thanks and sorry for the tirade ...

I do think that Bibic could help you.

I went 18 months ago with my own dd who has Aspergers and Adhd and felt that the whole family benefitted. They will definitely look at the issues that you are having.

It's worth giving them a call. The phone consultation is free and they will then tell you if they can help.

I go to BIBIC, and I grew up near trhem / worked alongside them so know them V well indeed (I liased with them when I was at Homestart frotraining, support etc).

I'm the only one who does DS's program, as dh isn't around in the evening (night worker) and they do tailor everything to you, you end up feeling very cosseted indeed ime.

Would you be going to the one at Usk or Bridgwater, out of interest?

They look at the child as a whole and the symptoms he displays, rather than any pre-conceived idea of AS or whatever syndrome. I find that really benefits DS, as some of his behaviours are atypical.

I don't know which one I would go to, both are far, I am in Cambridgeshire, I don't have a car... I will definetly be calling them anyway, I think that will answer a few questions, I am a bit useless on the phone though, never really say all I want, but will see. I have to look at quite a few things as we would probably have to stay there for 2 nights at least. Don't think we would be able to go before march or so, but having looked at what they've sent me again, I really feel it could be a really good thing to do, for both him and me.... Sometimes BIBIC do 'roadshows' where a mobile clinic travels to different areas of the country. You could ask if they're planning to come nearer you in the future?

I would add my voice to the others that you should go. They are excellent with sensory problems and definitely help you to 'get organised'. They're also very sensitive to individual needs so won't put pressure on you to do more than you can. Good luck!

Bridgwater is the one with accomodation, and the best facillities. You'll go to that one. There's a train station nearby too, BIBIC is about a ten minute drive from there, there's a bus too, anything that has Bawdrip on it but as they're in Knowle hall everyone knows them in the area.

If you've got any bridgwater questions (where to go etc) leyt me know, lived there for 32 years. Joelalie on MN is lovely and still ives there too. She'd be helpful I know.

Hi n170698, I'm also in Cambridgeshire, my DS1 has Asperger traits but not dx by paediatrician, and is having an ed. pschology assessment soon - he is 10 and has improved a lot over the years and manages his temper and phobias quite well now. How old is your son?

I am also looking into this. Do you need to have a diagnosis to go to BIBEC? I feel vaguely fradulent going to see them, as I'm not sure what is up with DS & don't want to waste their time.

No, categorically not- sam didn't. they do a set of assessments and then work on the problems you hve, not any diagnosis.

They haev kids going with dyslexia, speech problems right through to severe disabilities, it's for all kids.

if you call them, they arrange to geta therapist to call you a t home for an hour long interview (free) during which they decide if they can help you.

Amphion, my son is 8, he goes to a special school, because he has quite severe behavioural problems, so can't cope in mainstream. I was told he would grow up and get better with that, but he is not really! He used to be on a strict gfcf diet and recently I've let him have forbidden stuff, and I sourly regret it, as he is getting really hyper again and gets very angry if I refuse this stuff when I shop with him...nightmare!
I really need help at this point in time, if not I don't know how I am going to cope, I recently separated from the dad/dh who has just left me to get on with it, while he lives his own little life. Sorry to go on, I feel really bitter at the moment, my parents are visiting next week, from France and hopefully I will feel a bit better.

I've seen a poster round here for an autistic spectrum support group that meets up with their children, I think it is called SAID. Have you found one near you?
