I'm moving to Derby

I'm coming from south east London and looking to moving to Derby. I have a 7 year old with a diagnosis of autism. He is non verbal but began a few words using ABA. I don't want to make any mistakes like I did in the past and I want him in a mainstream school with adapted units if obtainable. Please tell me what is my take.will I have access to facilities for him or I stay put in London I need advice of adorable parents

I trained as a children's nurse and spent a little time working here and the school's wonderful. They treated each child wonderfully, it's not a mainstream school though but may be worth a look stclaresschool.co.uk There's also Reigate in Mackworth, I know children with autism who have a wonderful time here www.reigate.derby.sch.uk

I've no idea about Burton, sorry. I lived in Derby for 15 years but don't know about the other areas. I wouldn't actually live in Mackworth (where the second school is) if I were you. Mickelover is next to it and is lovely.

Alderwasley Hall in Derbyshire

Alderwasley Hall is a (fabulous) indie ss for children with Aspergers.
I don't know derbyshire but i have heard good things about that LA.
Have you looked on their local offer webpage? All of the schools, units and specialist provisions should be on there.

Avoid St James Junior School, Derby. Headteacher is incompetent and completely lacks the skills to manage the education and support for any children with special educational needs. Whether the need is visual, behavioural, physical or mental they are bottom of her list of priorities.

Hi, just to throw another thought in for you, take a look at both authorities in the county Derby city and Derbyshire and see which if either has the best options for you

We were always lead to believe support was better in Derbyshire but our experience of sitting on the border with one child educated in each authority is that Derby city have been really good whereas Derbyshire were not.
