Birthday party and ASD

Hi, I have never arranged a birthday party for my son who has ASD, but on the eve of his 7th birthday I am thinking of trying a birthday tea with 2/3 other children who also will be on the spectrum. I have no idea how to get started, knowing they will have different interests which I don't know about, and our flat is quite small. Believe it or not, it causes me a lot of stress but I really would like to celebrate it . Have you any ideas, advice? Thanks

cannot help with the party. Dd (autism) turned 7 a few months ago and she does't enjoy parties. we just spend a nice day out as a family.

That sounds like a lovely idea. Maybe ask the parents of the other children if there are any games/activities they particularly like? I shouldn't worry about doing anything your own DS doesn't really like - my DS is not very keen on having Happy Birthday sung - so we don't do that!
I saw a really good Lego Birthday cake the other day - would your DS like something like that? The Mum gave the kids Lego to take home in party bags and they were all pleased as punch.

I agree - see if there is common ground and check any sensory things to avoid for each.

I heard about a group of autistic kids who seemed to get on with strict rule type games like draughts, chess etc. Bit older than 7.
I think they made sandwiches together as well.

Maybe they will all like the same movie and you can have the DVD on...
