School trip question

Ds has ADHD and asd (hfa). He is due to go on a school trip for five nights. He is currently under a risk assessment management program for play times as he kept on being injured ( balls, rackets, stick to the head etc) as he is lacking in proprioception.

On the last trip there was a ratio of 1:2 and by all accounts it was utter chaos. They are doing activities like abseiling, quad biking, caving.

How do I raise with the school that I am worried about his safety? I know the place will have done risk assessments and dealt with sen kids before, but another mum is not sending her ds with asd and it has made me wobble.

He doesn't have 1:1 at school, no.
He has been on one overnight with beavers where he friended another boy with sen. He did have trouble going to sleep, yes, but they were aware and managed it. I guess five nights is another ball game tho.

I am not sure what support he might need. Time to calm down out if his hyper mode? He needs his book to read so will need a light. I am guessing tho that he will be so tired out that he will sleep straight away maybe?
I don't know if they will believe him tbh. It's tricky cod he gets accused of lying a lot, but it might be lying or it might be his perception and he hadn't realised iykwim? So he might have banged into someone and admit it bit it wasn't deliberate but he will be told off and told to be more careful.
I will meet with school. We are being asked for deposits so I think that it is ok to raise it now, or is it too early?
What is a short breaks team?

Ah ok. Thanks. We haven't applied for dla so not sure we would be eligible. No mention of referral since dx.

Good Luck.

If supported correctly it could be wonderful for him.

I don't like the sound of him being blamed for things that are not his fault though.

You can ask to see the school's risk assessment for the trip, which should include specific arrangements for your DS if he's on the SEN register (which I assume he must be), but they probably won't have completed it at this stage.

Thanks both.

Senvet, it could be fabulous if handled well, I agree!

Risk assessment is a good idea. I have emailed the senco so will add that to my list of questions.

Just had an idea
Can you ring the centre direct and ask to speak to whoever is in charge of their SEN. The parts of the day they are in charge of will probably be handled quite well if they know direct from you, rather than via the school

If you have any good summary documents you could forward them by email.
