URGENT HELP WITH STATEMENT!

Ok.

I would like a specialist provision for DS (preferably dual placement).

My LA has given me and extension to pick the school and finalise the statement. But it isn't enough time to look around for schools- because of the Christmas holidays.

Luckily I checked out all the special schools in my borough- and do not think any of them are suitable for DS.

What should I do. Put down DS mainstream school for the time being????

Also would like DS to go into a specialist provision while his still in reception.

No don't put down a ms provision if its not what you want. Once a school has been named then it can't be changed until the annual review unless the placement breaks down or there is a significant change in the child's needs. You are basically stuck for a year once the school is named.

So what should I put down instead of the mainstream provision?

Whichever school you want him to go to. You need to make a decision ASAP. I found that schools will let you look round sooner if you are up against a deadline.

If there are no suitable schools then could he not stay in his current school? You said previously that he is doing well there and is happy.
Do you all of the evidence ready to prove that his needs can only be met in a specialist provision?

Describe the type of provision ie a day school with specialism in xxx.

There is no actual legal obligation to name a school. A type of provision at this stage is fine.
