Hi I am new to the forum and haven't ever posted before, so be kind!
I have a nearly 7 year old DS who is in year 2. His class consists of year 1 and 2 so at the moment he works in a group of year 1's as he is not keeping up with the work.
Some background. He had delayed speech and has just finished speech therapy that we paid for privately.
He has glue ear and has just had grommets fitted that have both fallen out after just 4 weeks.
I am really worried about the gap widening and him becoming switched off. When he moves up to year 3 he will won't be able to work with the year 2's as they are in a different class.
He has an IEP and has been referred to the ed psych as he is just not making progress with his literacy.
Has anyone else had an experience like this or have any advice?
Many thanks

I certainly have experience with a child not keeping up in Y2.

Are his problems just academic? Or attention / behaviour / anything else as well?

I guess the very first place to start is to google dyslexia and see what you think.

Then, if you think he has dyslexia (he may not, the hearing problems do complicate things) then you need to start to research and research and research dyslexia and become very knowledgeable about it.

Don't worry about Y3 now. One, because it's ages away and two, because whatever year he's in he'll always (in a uk school) be given work appropriate to him.

What you need yo worry about now is what is causing his learning difficulties and what you need to do to help.

I am worried he feels he is stupid, and seems to be loosing confidence and interest. He doesn't want to read at home at all now.
At school he has a ta support his small group and seems to get easily distracted if she isn't there.
He realises his peers are working faster than him.

Are you worried about his literacy?

Indigob I am worried about his literacy as everything else seems to rely on it. I am more worried about his confidence though.
He told me tonight someone in his class had told him he wasn't clever!
