Hi my son is 6 and he is in the process of getting an asperggers diagnosis. In some respects he has got so much better and he is learning to deal with routines so much better and is finding it easier to cope now if something changes. However he has an obsession with green it has always been his favourite colour and he likes things to be green but at school he has taken it to a whole new level. Last year the school classroom chairs were green this year they are blue and he refuses point blank to sit on a blue chair. Myself and his new teacher knew this could cause a problem, this obsession is only at school he likes green at home but not to the extent that he wont wear anything of any other colour or have a blue cup for example. Myself and the teacher agreed that he has to be like everyone else and sit on the blue chairs, however now the obsession is getting worse and he has to have the green ball at play and the green skipping rope in PE. Trying to calm him down when he doesn't get his 'green;' is taking up too much of the teachers time so they asked me today if I agree with them getting him a green chair, and letting him have what he wants in green at school to keep him calm. I feel this is giving in to him but he is also at school to learn and be happy and at the moment he isn't really either although but I don't want him going through life thinking that if he creates a fuss he will get his own way. Any advice would be appreciated?? thank you
