Ds2 is to be assessed in January.
I've heard of ADOS and DISCO, but actually I have no idea what to expect.

I've spoken to an assessor who has said there will be a long parent appointment with a psychologist.

So what is ADOS?
What is DISCO?

When ds is seen, if he does what he usually does in public and masks everything and says what he's supposed to say (as opposed to how he is at home and with dh and I), is all lost? Will what dh and I say count towards it?

I have reams of diaries and observations, what is the best way to summarise these? Using the triad of impairments or using the NICE diagnosis criteria?

Should ds be told what's going on?

Thank you :)

There are different assessments for autism. We had the Ados. Not sure if it depends on the age. How old is your DS? Have you asked what kind of assessment he will have?

He's 9.
The CDC have said there'll be observations at school, a long parent appointment, I'm sure they said ADOS but I might have misheard, so I'm not really sure.

I don't have any answers, but am watching with interest.

My dd will hopefully be referred for an ADOS assessment (still having to jump through hoops) some point soon.

Masking is some thing I'm worried avout too although dd is not masker in general. Being around new people in new environments being asked to do things has two effects on her: either she complies and is happy and chatty or she point blank refuses to do anything at all.

I mentioned to the assessor that he masks exceedingly well, and she was very reassuring about it, said that half of the children they see don't give anything away at school, but it's still worrying me.

Thanks :)

Have I got it right that ADOS is ds being interviewed (can't think of the right word) without me there, DISCO is an interview without ds there?

Should dh be at all the appointments, or would it be ok just me?
