Classroom causing ds some issues...

DS ASD just moved to YR2.

Inappropriate behaviour on the increase as is his anxiety. His hand washing OCD is back with a vengeance and his hands are raw.

At my request we have all (Me, CT, SENCO, Inclusion Support, Area SENCO) met to put together a behaviour management plan today. CT has listed all behaviour issues from low level like not sitting walking around right up to disparaging others. She has then written what she has/is going to put in place to address. They have agreed to up his support and are going to complete the ABC chart for a couple of weeks. I'm relatively happy with school's response and school is generally very supportive.

However I believe that there are two issues that are causing ds some problems that are not going to/or can't be addressed.

A new boy has started and ds can't cope with this, its been six weeks and he still feels the same. It's causing big issues with verbal outburst from ds. I'm also concerned that ds's support is being reduced as the new boys as some needs.

The classroom layout is awful, very oppressive and no obvious route to get around and the area to the toilet is a bottle neck. I'm NT and I would hate it to be the room I spent 6 hours a day in.

Considering I believe these are the main two significant issues what can I do convince school they need to address these. Would an OT report help.

I don't think there is anything you can do about the new boy other then request that they are sat away from each other. If DS's support is being reduced then you could address that if he has a statement.

As for the class layout you could ask that DS is moved to an area which might be easier for him. An OT report would help as they can recommend the sort of working space that would be best for DS. There is no harm in suggesting a different layout to the classroom but it would be better with OT backup.
The school seem to be quite proactive from your OP so hopefully they will be open to new ideas.
