DS age 3(next week) has a speech delay. She has a older sister with diagnosed autism and a older brother with suspected as and adhd.

She will pee in the potty but not poo. Today she has been bringing a nappy and when I tell her she must use the potty has been telling me 'no'.

So two questions how do I deal with potty refusal?

Also how do I encourage her to poo on the potty?

This is fairly normal even for the average child, very common right up to school age.

you could try putting the nappy, open, inside the potty and see if she goes on that, but i'm not sure there is a lot else you can do. To be honest i would just let her have a nappy, it will avoid the problems caused by constipation from toilet refusal.

How about letting her use the nappy but having her sit in the bathroom to do it, then doing hand washing after changing her?

Thank you I will put a nappy back on her and try again at Christmas.

I think that's probably best, She will get there eventually, there's no rush.
