i got mine from the council at a cost of 3.50 didnt need to show proof of disability though which i thought was odd they fit all disabled toilets across the country

reiver · 25/09/2006 17:10

I'm appalled about finding them on Ebay. Next someone will say that you can get blue badges on there too!

Davros · 25/09/2006 20:22

You can buy them from Fledglings. I was also surprised when I got mine on the internet that there was no proof of disability required. I have 3 so DS always has one with him, I have one in my purse and one in his spare/weekend bag.

I've just looked on our local council website because I've been meaning to get a key for ds. They are free to local residents although you have to pay £6 for a replacement if you lose it. Also you have to have a letter from your doctor and photocopies of both sides of your blue badge. Seems like another service that varies depending on where you live which is a bit odd as it's a nationwide scheme.

littleredcorvette · 27/09/2006 16:06

I've just been on the RADAR website and ordered one, together with their Children First Guide at:

radar-shop.org.uk

The key costs £3.50, excl VAT (if you are entitled to 'VAT Relief for Disabled People') or £4.11, incl VAT. Both prices include delivery.
I've just received a confirmation email saying that they will be delivered within 14 days.

If ordering from their website, don't forget to tick the box for Gift Aid

2shoes · 27/09/2006 17:06

if you order on a web site how do they check you are disabled? iynwim

I thought it was a bit odd when I was ordering it, but the way I look at it is - would anybody who is not entitled to use a Radar key actually go to the trouble of:
a) Finding and going to the website
b) Paying for it?

Maybe I'm just being naive

2shoes · 27/09/2006 22:36

did you not see the thread a while back about people using disabled toilets I think it was in other.

littleredcorvette · 28/09/2006 16:39

Hi 2shoes, I hadn't seen that thread in 'Other Subjects' (I very rarely venture out of SN) but I've just read all 193 of the posts on there.
In my earlier reply on this thread, I wasn't talking about all disabled toilets, just the ones that are locked and you need a Radar key to get in.
I had no idea how to get a Radar key until I read it on Mumsnet.

2shoes · 28/09/2006 17:08

still i suppose a lot of people wouldn't go to that much trouble to get one just to jump a Que.
so think you are right.
