Toothbrushing Avoiders - This helps!

My DS (8) has ASD and all things sensory are a complete nightmare. A particular issue is brushing his teeth. He still uses 0-3years toothpaste and there's a cursory wave around the mouth, lots of gagging and precious little plaque removal.

So I tried the Aquabrush Toothbrushing app with him last night. He was aware it was a little babyish Wink but he's competitive and loved all things screen- based. So, he did I full 2 minutes of fairly good brushing (best he's EVER done in his life). He gained 20 points which they then use to clothe a little Avatar figure thing called a Nurdle. The Nurdle sings a song for 2 minutes whilst they brush and tells them when to change side etc. thought I'd share in case it helped anyone else.

Aquafresh I meant. It's an ipad app. Only downside - toothpaste splatters on my ipad and proximity to water ....

DS loves brushing his teeth my by himself. He always gets excited when I buy him a new tooth brush and Tooth paste.

I've got the aqua fresh app, but DS doesn't like it that much. But he loves the 'My teeth" app, if you have time download it, I saw the app on the iPhone 5s advert and knew DS would love it.

We did try it with ds, it didn't really work as he just wanted to dance to the song instead of brushing his teeth Grin

thankfully I have got past the sitting on him with arms clamped by his side tickling his ears so he opens his mouth stage... [evil mummy]

I am lucky to still have ten fingers.

Amazon sell an unflavoured toothpaste called Oralnurse if this helps anyone.

Tambaboy · 09/09/2014 20:05

Sunnymeg thanks for that recommendation! DS hates minty toothpaste so we'll give that one a go.

Thanks for the recommendation, will give it a go!

We tried the Oranurse unflavoured toothpaste and bizarrely ds still didn't like the taste! Then again he doesn't like the taste of water either! Confused Grin back to the baby toothpaste!
