Do I try for an ehcp?

My dd is 3 she was non verbal until about 6 months ago. Since then she has started to use some words and some makaton signs but is hugely behind where she should be.
She was seen by a salt who suggested I use makaton and she has put May dd's name down on a list for group therapy.

My dd starts preschool tomorrow i am wondering if I should start trying to get an ehcp so we could get her into a ss next year instead of our local primary.

Do you think this is a good idea? How do I go about this?

Tia

Yes I think this is a good idea! If you believe that your daughter needs to go to a SS to support her needs then go for it.

I believe the ECH plan has come into force now, so I'm not sure if you go by your standard of applying for a statement. I may be wrong. I think you should call up your nearest parent partnership and ask for advice in how to go about this as I know nothing about the ECH plan.

The procedure is more or less the same, you write to the LA asking for an EHC needs assessment. IPSEA's website has been updated to cover this. They have 6 weeks to make a decision, you have a right of appeal if they refuse.

Thank you very much I am going to speak to the senco at preschool today and let them know I am going to apply for an ehcp.
