Problems with car rides

Hey everyone, any ever have issues with car rides? Every time we put our 8-year old (CP and blinded) in his car seat he gets very upset and very scared. He starts kicking and screaming, even hits himself.

Once the car starts moving, he begins to calm down a bit, but once the car comes to a stop (or even slows down) the whole story starts anew. He is constantly tapping the seat, which leads me to believe he wants to get out and does not like it.

However, this makes it almost impossible for us to take him anywhere, because you always need two people, one to drive the car and the other to stop him from hurting himself. If you have any experiences or ideas, we would be happy to hear them.

Anyone work with disabilitybenefitshelp.org/ before?

We've had soem issues with our 8yo (ASD) escaping from his car seat and have been working with LD CAMHS. We were told that if it takes a second person in the car to keep him safe, then that's what the advice from anyone would be to do. Sorry I can't be any more help in that respect.

How does he normally communicate with you? I wonder if he's feeling disorientated and a little car sick, as the motion of the car changes.
