My son recently started on equasym XL 10mg and is having mood swings. He is 12 yrs old. I don't know if it's his age but he wasn't as bad before he started taking them. He's always been volitile but is even worse now. Will the Side effects eventually settle. Should I ride it out, or stop them?
I'm free to contact doctor but this is second lot of meds he's tried.
I don't know what to do but he needs something to help him concentrate at school. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms.

Everyone is different, swishy, so it's hard to predict how individuals will respond to medication. My son had a spell on Equasym XL as a next step from immediate release methylphenidate, but it didn't agree with him. He reacted in such a way that it was like he wasn't medicated at all, so pointless really. His consultant said it was quite common and we went back to immediate release.

That said, it's rare that the only thing happening in a child's life is the medication so I couldn't be sure that it was the drug and not something else that was stressing him. It's hard to isolate all the possibilities.

I'd talk to your consultant, perhaps suggest going back to your previous meds and see if thing settle back to the way they were before. You can always try XL again at a later date to be sure it's a meds reaction.
