Hi,

I have just found this website and am looking forward to meeting everyone. The reason I am on this site is because my 4 year old son was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder just over a month ago. I am trying to find other parents who have children with a similar condition who I can talk to and maybe get some advice from.

Thaks

hi mummythetankengine (your DS isn't a Thomas fan by any chance????!!!) M

My DS1 is four (will be five in August) and was diagnosed in March last year as having high-functioning autism. He loves Thomas the Tank Engine and buses.

the posters on mumsnet generally and on these special needs boards are fantastic - I've had so much help and support - glad you've found us

look forward to hearing more about you and your DS

Hi there and welcome.
We are all addicted to Mumsnet, well I certainly am and I think I speak for pretty much most of us!

My daughter was 2 the week before Christmas just gone and has Down's syndrome.

She is wonderful and I look forward to boring someone else about her

I hope you find umsnet as great as I do, it's been a huge support to me and a good laugh to boot.

Love Thomcat x

'Ey Up Mummythetankengine, just saying hello,I have no experience of any autistic spectrum disorders, but I expect you will end up strying into much wider conversations! Welcome. (should you ever need a conversation about talipes, splints, piedro boots, having a child in hospital for an op or bone lengthening, then I'm your woman! and usually called Blu.).

How are you feeling now that your son has been diagnosed?

coppertop · 01/04/2004 15:12

Welcome to Mummythetankengine.

I have 2 ds's. The eldest is 3yrs 9mths and was officially diagnosed with high-functioning autism in February - although we'd suspected/known about it for a long time beforehand.

Ds1 has speech therapy and is on the long waiting-list for Occupational Therapy.
