The thing that bothers me most these days is the casual use of the word special in a derogatory manner.

Strangely, I don't find that too bothersome. What really gets me is the question about "why is he autistic", or "why doesn't he talk". Probably well-meaning and people trying to appear interested and involved but it comes across to me as accusatory when I am feeling sensitive!

I read a good one here a while ago about what to say when people ask what special abilities he has....Tell them (whispered) "he can FLY!". Now I realise that is totally mean and I have never actually done it, but it did give me and DH a laugh.

It's the you don't look disabled/autistic that gets me, it's often addressed directly to my dd as she's adult. I have to bite my tongue every time not to say "Well you don't look stupid..."
