Just got back from seeing Ds Consultant Paed.

He has been involved with her for over a year now and we see him every couple of months.

Today after observing her for a few minutes and asking us questions he said "i dont want to frighten you but we are thinking AUTISM with DD"
So i nodded and told him that is what we have thought for a while and he said that her development delay is slowly catching up but that her socialising,routines etc are still the same.
He was watching her with DS who came along and was interested in how she played with him, i told him that they dont play together and that they dont acknowledge each other and he nodded.
He has now referred her to the Autism specialist, he said that she is between AS and Autism, is there a diagnosis for this part of the spectrum does anyone know?

My son has HFA dx because he has SPD (language disorder) that sonds likely but tbh it seems most people see HFA / AS as overlapping, so that's quite likely too

It depends on the individual Paed tbh. They each seem to have their own preferred term. Ds1's first Paed talked about AS but put HFA on the written report. Ds2's Paed prefers AS but as ds2 technically had no language delay I suppose AS fits him better. Other Paeds talk about SPD as being on the spectrum (Semantic Pragmatic Disorder - not the one you get in pregnancy ).

CT- yes im ok, i feel sad though even though i knew she was and i have known for a year now, its just when someone confirms it, it sort of floors you.
DH is more upset than me, he said "Now im surrounded by all you auti,s even the dog is an auti" he says he wants to be dx auti as he feels left out

She does have a language delay so i suppose she could be SPD, (DS psych thinks that i have this also)
But at least people are starting to listen to me now and not dismiss everything, theres nothing like a mothers instinct.

Perhaps you should amke him an honourable auti badge? With ten essential rules for survival... I don't know, only be particularly friendly to people you hardly know and then completely failt o say Hi to those you love; never talk to anyone when you can do it by e-mail or letter instead; get anoyed at TV debates because the answers are so obvious- well to those who see everything in balcka nd white anyway; never remember to brush you hair and do your make up the same day; have both the commonest background and the poshest accent imaginable.... ooops, think I'm just describing me there LOL

Sorry to hear about DD, but from a more optimistic POV at least you know what you're dealing with. Those of us on the spectrum with children thre too- i think it creates an advantage for the childs self esteem.
