Data protection act

Hi does anyone know or has anyone made a request under the data protection act. We've applied to an ooc school and ooc panel has turned down our request.

I'm sure our dc meets criteria so would like to see the reasons they've given. My la are in the process of writing but are always suitably vauge.

Does anyone know the process, I understand there is a charge, would they have to give me the notes of the meeting or do they prepare an outline of information held. Also I assume I can apply on behalf of my dc as a parent with parental responsibility. Dc is under 16.

If you look on your LA website they should have a form you can use to request records,SEN files etc. I did this and obtained a lot of very useful info such as emails between LA staff discussing palcements,costs etc.

i did this and uncovered brilliant email between COUNTY SALT advising my daughter needed small classes. The school they wanted to send her to and the reason i was going to tribunal for was 90 kids in a class. So she gave me the evidence i needed even though i was not meant to see it. Best £10 ever spent for tribunal.
