Having just had my DS's end of year report every teacher has said my son lacks attention and would learn so much more if he listened. He has moderate autism and background noise really affects him. He is already in a special needs school with small classroom size but this has little benefit on his ability to keep his attention but I can't help wonder if anyone has a child that has been put on medication for ADHD but doesn't need it for the hyperactivity part but just purely to concentrate for school. He is 12 years old and is still at level 2 for Maths and English, which he has been on since year 1. Obviously at this rate I can't see him ever being independent which would be a great shame as I feel he is intelligent enough to learn it's just finding a way to learn. I have made contact with Camhs through my doctor and they have said his problems are due to the autism and didn't really want to know. I don't really want to medicate him but if he was to increase his concentration span and his ability to retain things by doing so I would like to consider it. Hope this makes sense in what I'm asking.
