Hi I've just had an intense meeting with prospective school and my consultant n other professionals regarding transition to reception.

The school have a lot of "provision" for asd support, we are requesting aba shadows to come in.

Number 1 problem- funding.... We are in talks with LA and I am happy to top up as a parent. She's been awarded a part time LSA for a band 4

Number 2 problem- the head teach (who I have yet to speak to) is asking why the new of an Aba when LSA has been working with sen children and all their ASD children have been successful?

Obviously we have pointed out that the ABA tutors will be taking data which is essential.

What else could I tell them with regards to LSA vs ABA support?

Thanks

To be honest, I think the level of supervision and daily accountability to an expert (in the form of data) ensure progress is optimal is what the ABA tutor offers.

Success is defined by evidence, not opinion and though the LSAs may be effective, how can the HT truly know that these children have made the progress they are capable with without sound data and having that data checked day by day by an Autism Expert.

That's what we tried to explain!!

But they kept saying that the head teacher has been working with sen children for many many years and all their children have made successful progress...

Now, I've tried asking what this success entails but they just repeated themselves :/

They will be making a decision next week on whether they want our tutors coming in at all.... I feel sick with worry

Oh FFS. Ask her if she is so successful where are her peer reviewed published articles on her methodology.

Lol Star! That's what I wanted to ask!!!

They brought an ASD outreach lady to the meeting who kept mentioning that they do exactly the same thing (!) cue eye roll from me

I really really hope they allow it, even for half a day... I'm quite desperate as I can't really go through it all with another school...

The flipping stress of it all is really unfair as if I don't have enough to deal with already
