Ok so ds2 has dyspraxia and a speech disorder, I'm going to tribunal to get a statement in October. Private ep thinks he has asd.

Toddler has the same symptoms and getting feet funding portage and pead is trying to get him into a speech unit.

Both get dla

Found out its a genetic duplication from dads side this week. Seen pead gp and genetasist next week in a big London hospital

Dh told his family as we had too. They have said our kids are fine, it's all in our mind, we're mistaken, the doctor meant deficencey we need to put it behind us

How the hell do you all cope with this? Our life has been shattered for ever but I need to ignore get over it? Seriously? Is it just me but having sn kids is no piece of p1ss for me. They only I can get over it is too walk out!

Ignore the relatives. People do tend to go into denial about these things, and you may have taken them by surprise. It would be interesting to know whether, when they think about it, they might actually acknowledge that there are signs elsewhere in the family - though they probably won't acknowledge it to you.

When ds was diagnosed as dyslexic, I remember having a conversation with MIL about theories as to whether there could be link with, amongst other matters, speech disorders, and referring to the fact that SIL didn't talk till she was 3. She got distinctly huffy about it, saying there'd never been any problems like that in HER family, and more or less saying that if there was anything wrong with ds it must be down to my defective genes. But knowing what I do now, I would say that there is no question that SIL does indeed have a mild learning difficulty - which in my view is nothing whatsoever to be ashamed of, but MIL still wouldn't accept it.

Yes it's all that - it's not from MY family! Poo at play - look I'm a genius dispite not knowing about the terms genetic duplication and deficencey. "The doctor said iron deficient but you heard that as genetic duplication" dispite me having a biology degree and studying genetics at degree level. Oh and seeing a genetasist about this deficency.....

Oh well let's hope they never pass the gene on and that when their child is two wonder why they have zero words and are still acting like a 12 month old. But they wouldn't wonder would they? After all Einstein didn't talk til he will five! Lack of speech is a sure sign your child is a genius! Will some please tell my son that as he is functioning down at the 1% level. If only he had been Brought up by the in laws - they could have wiped (ignored him) into being perfectly normal!

FML!
