Inversion of Chromosome 2

I just found out my 35 year old brother has an inversion of chromosome 2, but neither of my parents are carriers. My brother has Aspergers/ severe mental health issues.my mother ( who lives abroad) said that's all she knows as my brother was tested 30 yrs ago and refuses my questions!
Of course I googled this and have started to worry incase I could have a chromosome inversion myself.. My main concern is I have a 16 mth DS who seems fine but I'm scared I could have passed something onto him, which wouldnt be noticed until he gets older..I haven't dared mention this to my DH as he would be so angry I wasn't told about this before I got pregnant by my mother...
.I went to the GP who said he didn't know much about Genetics so is referring me to Addenbrokes Genetics Dept in Cambridge.. I'm sooooooooo scared I could have ruined my lovely baby boys life and just can't sleep as I'm so worried..has anyone got experience of siblings with inversions, or any general support please?

OP, what exactly are you worried about? Your brother has an inversion which is not inherited from eitheer parent, i.e. is is a new mutation that just happened when he was conceived. you won't in all likelyhood be a carrier either (i.e. you cannot have passed it on).

plus, your DS is developing typically. I am pretty sure you worry about nothing.

Chocgalore - l think your comments are reassuring and l feel what you said is probably correct. My worry comes from the fact l hope lm being told the truth about neither parents being carriers, the fact my brother had an inversion was hidden from me for the past 25yrs makes me wonder what else l dont know about....
