My 4 year old son started hitting himself a year ago (started about 1 year after noticing his other issues) and it seems to be getting more and more now, it could be with his hand , a book , a toy or what ever he has in his hand at the time does anyone know why they do this ? I don't understand why he's doing it more frequently either he is relatively high functioning as well.

Also are there any good books about ASD about ? Explaining behavioirs ect ? I have read the reason I jump.

He has also started sucking his fingers !

Thank u , I've been lost in this process with no answers now for 2,5 years ! Hopefully get some info soon!!

Does he himself when he is angry or frustrated?

My ds hits himself if he feels angry with himself or stressed about something.

Sometimes it can be used as a form of sensory-seeking behaviour. My ds used to hurl himself against walls a lot to get the same effect.

Various times sometimes nothing , sometimes excitement , anticipation , overload not when he's angry though we've been told by his psyc to ignore and distract

He is verbal and has good understanding generally , hitting in hand flappy I would say deffo as he almost vibrates when doing It if u get me ?? He never says anything about it or anything but it's a daily thing now . He will hit us occasionally when excited ect but this would be separate to the head hitting ! X

His words :( he had a hoody on and I checked on him he was dripping sweat :( he can speak so well yet little things he can't do? I can't believe I taken it for granted ! I thought he would be ok today too as a big zoo open space so even if it was busy he would have room he sat in his sisters pram most of the day in himself :( it's so confusing :(
