NAS lady- majorly embarassed

Just broke down in front of NAS lady and said that DH and I firmly believe we will be ignored until Sam kills someone. That is true but I've never said it except to DH

She is going to phone the SS and tell them to geta rses into gear re: holiday schemes, and she said if things don't improve she will phone them (if we agree) and tell them we are close to the edge coping.

{sad]. Are we really that bad??

Oh, the reason AS / HFA kids don't geta social worker is that it is not officially a learning disability. So there. (???)

Pc ~ So sorry that you feel so down and I am not surprised at all. You are certainly not bad at all. Without all the help we get I would be over the edge already. I told my own sw last year that I was so close to walking out the door driving of and never coming back!

Dd has a great SW and we have had playschemes for 3 years (and ds goes too, twice a week).
I just can't see how it varies from place to place. It shouldn't be like that. It should be the same everywhere for everyone. Makes me so

This might sound odd, but you may just have done the right thing. My sister works with people with learning disabilities and says, sadly, social services often don't provide enough support until parents say they can't cope and will walk out of the door.

I do hope they sit up and take notice.

Thanks guys. Dh persuaded me to go make a GP appointment to get AD's too, as the lack of sleep really ahs finally got to me- I now cannot sleep past 3 am or before 12 midnight. I also applied for carers aloowance- I may not get it in term time (depends how many hours Uni says I'm in 'essential study'- I only do 12 - 13 hours a week but they might say I should do different), but definitely entitled for over the summer, and that money will cover at least half the price of the educational consultant Dh and I want to gire to sort Sam's school / statement once and for all- he 'knows' of the school, has dealt with them before, and seems tor eally know his stuff. Apparently our council is being taken to task by the Assembly for the lack of support / statements on offer, and I am a buit friendly with the AM's wife (enough to have been invited to her garden party next month anyhow).

Oh Peachy Let's hope they finally sit up and take notice. There's absolutely nothing wrong in admitting that you're finding Sam very hard to manage. I would be screaming from the rooftops if my ds didn't attend a playscheme, I wouldn't have been able to cope.

Edam's right. Often you won't get any help until you tell them that you say that you can't cope and will therefore be leaving your child in their care.

How on earth can they decide that HFA/AS means no learning disability????

I spoke to the consultant last night, and he said that Sam is also showing signs of dyslexia which is ewhy he isn't learning from phonics, and apparently he's shocked that we got full higher rate Dla but no mobiity. Wants us to appeal but don't have the energy atm. Not knowing the whole staement farce begins on Monday
