Anyone know about deferring nursery entry?

This is a question for someone I know.

The LO has been offered a school nursery place but for various reasons isn't ready.

No dx but is on SN register at Preschool.

Parents are looking at the option of deferring entry until Easter so LO still gets to know the children and still gets the transition stuff into reception of the same school.

Is this completely reliant on the schools goodwill to keep a place open for the child or are they obliged to take into account children's additional needs?

Hope someone can help Smile

could they not simply apply for a nursery place in time for next April? Suppose most nurseries will have an April intake in any case. and nursery is not compulsory so not sure you can actually 'defer'.

I remember from Dd's nursery application that children with SN were far higher up the priority list than NT children.

Will he get a statement? if so, the nursery could be named in the statement (or EHCP). Dd was statemented at nursery already.

Thanks choc the nursery in question does often have spaces in January and occasionally in April, it is a risk though.

No the child won't get an EHCP or statement. Does have additional needs but not that couldn't be met at SA+ or whatever that becomes.

Many of the issues are related to maturity and some separation anxiety which is getting less and less each week at preschool.
