Scooter for child with balance issues

My DD is 6 with mild CP and has been managing quite well on a toddler scooter with 3 wheels up until now. It is becoming too small and looking at the next step up with scooters, I know she won't manage on the 2 wheeled ones and will need 3 wheels for more stability.

Anyone used a maxi micro scooter for a child with physical/balance difficulties? It's the tilting handle that worries me - whether she'll get the hang of it or just feel unsteady. They are a lot of money if that's the case!

Grateful for any other suggestions or ideas too!

hi, my ds uses a maxi micro. When he changed to the tilt steering it really confused him and took him a very long time to get used to it. He was only 3 or 4 when I got him a scooter with the tilt steering so maybe it was so difficult because he was still quite young. He got the maxi micro a few months before he was five. He manages well with it and it goes most places with us but he is preferring his bike now. He is finally able to pedal and steer (with stabilisers).

I had not thought of trying a two wheeled scooter, zzzzz. Maybe I will get him one for his next birthday. But can not imagine ds being able to use one.

My son (age 15) has balance problems and has a 2 wheel scooter (one at the front, one at the back if this is what you mean) and he falls off it. He also misjudges the height of the curbs and steps, so will fall into the road. I'd get a three wheel one if you can.

Can you have him try someone else's maxi scooter?

zzzzz, would the height of the dirt scooter be OK for a 6year old? Is it the tilt steering. They look really good, but very expensive.

thanks zzzzz I will have a look at them.

op I hope you like the maxi micro if you buy one. I think they are fab!

I recommend the maxi micro scooter, it's fab for children with and without balance issues.

Thanks that's all very helpful. Am going to look at the maxi micro scooter this week. She's very conscious that her scooter looks 'babyish' now so hoping this will give her a bit more kudos but still be stable enough for her to manage.

She really can't manage on 2 wheels yet sadly, my DS has a 2wheeled scooter and she's just not strong or steady enough on her feet to use it.
