Special needs in Scotland.

Probably moving to Scotland. My oldest has special needs in that he has Bilateral integration problems. Basically he is very bright but doesnt write. Teachers used to feel he day dreamed and was scruffy/lazy. He now uses a Neo wordprocessor.
I have sweated blood to get him to OTs, Peadiatricians etc and get them and the school to agree on what DS problems were and how to deal with them. The School were the slowest to come onboard but they are here now. I just about understand how IEPs work for special needs kids here but Im guessing its totally different in Scotland.Can anyone enlighten me? is there a code of practice I could read? Do you think I could just present my son to his next school (where ever we end up) as a non -writing Neo user or will I have to do the whole "proof" thing again? Im a little overwhelmed at the prospect of moving him.

I don't know much about it but I believe that Statements don't exist in Scotland and its something like a Record of Need??? I gather its not as legally enforceable. Don't know about other provision, sorry.

Yes, it is a Record of Need north of the border .......or was.... as they are in the process of implementing Coordinated Support Plans.
Before we moved north (even before we bought the house) I contacted the local Education Dept who put me in touch with the Ed Psych for the area who was most helpful (yes, really!)& discussed the options available even though DD was pre-school at the time. Do you know which area yet?

If you look on the Contact a Family Scotland website (sorry, have never mastered links) there are various factsheets which you can download or send for, which explain the system north of the border which may help.

Good luck with your move. My son has a CSP - it hasn't actually 'done' much yet - merely brought all the agencies involved together but its early days yet.
