Would anyone know of anywhere that would consider help with fees to an independant specialist school please?

most independent specialist schools only take children with LA funding - well they do in my area anyway i'm not sure about herts specifically.
have you approached the LA?

I too thought you need to have a statement to get into an special indy school; you cannot self dind- at least that is the case in my LA.

fund, not dind.

Thanks guys. There is a school in herts that Is not mainstream and not a special school but it is specialist for children like my Ds. Some children are statemented some are not.
Does anyone have any knowledge of how to get any help if I pay the fees myself. I expect my chances of getting LA to find are pretty dim.

you could try getting funding through continuing care. i think it depends on your child's needs as to whether they would agree to it but i know someone who got a residential placement jointly funded by social care, education and nhs via continuing care. the placement cost was approx 108k per year but this kid was out of control and had exhausted everything anybody could offer.

There are educational grants sometimes based on where you live or have worked. Also Buttle Trust pay indep school fees. Some schools also offer their own bursaries etc. There are websites which list grant making trusts.
