Hi,
Just wondering if someone out there could give help me, my son who is now 6 he will be 7 in July, he had a cold that wouldnt go away after a few weeks we took him to the doctors and they gave him some medicane well the trips to the doctors then turned into weekly trips as nothing was working for him. They then said if he was no better by monday (just using today as an example) then they would send him to the hospital and this went on for 4 months for 4 months all he did was sit on the sofa and didnt move as he didnt have the energy to move. At the christmas he had a plus 40 temperature rushed him into hospital to be sat in a room for 2 hours and they had given him calpol and then sent me home.
The following day he was still no better so i rang the children's outpatients as he was waiting for an appointment to be seen and they gave him an xray to find he had 2 shadows on the right side of his lungs he had pneumonia they gave him some medicane and 2 inhalers and then days after he was a totally different child.
Since then he has now got speech and language problems and have hit a brick wall as i want him referred to some one who can help with his behaviour and they have told me they cant as hes not being neglected which i think is wrong, he does have speech and language in school (now we have moved him schools) but this is still not enough as hes behind in everything. I have a 2 year old and its like having 2 2 year olds at home.
I am getting his files from the hospital as im looking into taking action against the doctors as they neglected my child, and also what parts of the brain has it effected as of all his development and that went out the window.
Im trying to find out as well if he could have some part of ADHD but everyone just keeps telling me that hes fine hes a child, yes hes a child but thing are still not right with him. We have an Ed Pyschologist which has just been changed which doesnt help at all and his statment last year got rejected, his school said they would support me when we go for it again and now they wont so ive got to do it myself.
if anybody knows anything or can help in any way just let me know thanks.

hi, I would suggest contacting ipsea for advice with regards to the statementing application. They have a helpline that you can ring and are very helpful.

Hi, I have contacted them with regards to the statement side of things and the school have said that they wouldnt be able to help me if i needed to appeal so i would be best of doing myself, so that is what i plan on doing.

You may well have a case for action against the doctors but tbh you'd be better right now focussing on getting your child the interventions he needs, as this is a big job in itself.

Who applied for a statement last year and when was it rejected and on what grounds?

I'm getting a copy of his medical records from when he was in hospital and also off the doctors and see what is wrote in them. It was refused last year as they said there wasn't enough information from the outside agencies but they never asked them for anything and also there was no ed physiologist but we was waiting for them to come in, it was school who applied for the statement last time and we got them in and asked them why they had rejected it and they told us why so we have put everything in place from that and has been in place from then on. School was all for putting in another statement but when I've spoke to them again about it they have said that it may be best if I applied for the statement as if it was rejected then school wouldn't be able to help with the appeal and said had I thought about doing the statement myself as a parent. I have thought about it and I've kept everything from when it all started in a folder thus has been going on since he was 2 years old.
