ABAson · 10/04/2014 22:23

We are starting a new ABA home programme (school and home setting) for our 6 year old high functioning daughter. The following consultants have been recommended:

Risca Solomon
Lisa Campbell
Julia Underwood
Kerry Farrell
Kate Wolf
Charlotta Holenstein
Duncan Fennemore

Grateful for your experiences with any of the above in relation to High Functioning children. Feel free to inbox me.

I only know 4 of these personally but would recommend all 4: Risca, Julia, Kate and Duncan

I just don't know the others, so can't say either way

osospecial · 11/04/2014 19:35

We use Risca and she's great Smile

Mykidsaremyworld7 · 20/05/2014 09:34

Hi, I recently asked a similar question and made enquiries for my son and my understanding that if you want to work on developing language then Duncan or Kerry. I believe Risca specialises in more severe autism and Charlotta in high functioning autism such as aspergers and skills such as social skills. We have not started ABA yet but I am considering Kerry Farrell based on recommendations from other mums who have her as their child's consultant. Best of luck :)

Hi,
Can I enquire how much do the consultants charge per hour and do you use tutors as well. I am considering starting aba as well but I don't know very much about the details. Thanks

sammythemummy · 21/05/2014 10:01

gortaThey vary, one on there charges £60/hour but I know that Duncan charges a lot more.
But tbh I found my consultant quite flexible in payment and she

sammythemummy · 21/05/2014 10:04

Oops

And she comes out once a month/couple of months.

It's the tutors that might set you back depending on how many hours of ABA/ VB you need. Tutors can charge £10-15 depending on experience.

Mykidsaremyworld7 · 01/06/2014 06:07

Gorta - I can send you details of the consultant if you wish. I think her fee is £70 per hour. I believe it can vary between consultants (£60 to £100) per hour but as PP said, tutors can be the biggest expense if you decide to use them. I may do alpt of it on my own initially .

StarlightMcKenzie · 01/06/2014 13:31

Though excellent, some of those on that list are overstretched and really don't seem to limit the number of people they consult for. I would be extremely clear about your expectations of their contact time and supervision of your programme. I also think many of them (though not all and willing to PM you with their names) are extraordinarily overpriced (to be fair why wouldn't they be if demand exceeds supply?), and I think you can get better value for money.

Mykidsaremyworld7 · 02/06/2014 03:40

Thank you Starlightmackenzie for the advice. I would be grateful if you could PM the names of ones that are too busy and any personal recommendations you may have. We are hoping to start as soon as our finances are sorted so want to make sure we make the best investment .. Thank you

Starlightmackenzie- hi, could you also PM the names and any personal recommendations please?

PinkShark · 10/06/2014 09:42

I have one that is exceptional and not only provide ABA but combines them with speech and language and has also has a counselling experience and work on self esteem etc. My demand avoidant kiddy works with her for 2 hours flat and yet the school cant for 10-15 mins. Highly recommend her, pm me for details.

On teh plus side unlike most, she replies to calls and email in 24 hours and very often within an hour or 2.

hanifah1 · 10/06/2014 18:17

Hi starlight, please could you also email me the names of those over stretched or over priced like the others - along with those who are "better value for money"

Kakty3 · 10/06/2014 23:33

We've been working with UK YAP (www.ukyap.org) for the last ten months and I can't recommend them enough. Our son is nearly five and has HFA.

salondon · 11/07/2014 18:15

We use Sean as our consultant and Katie as the supervisor (she is a bcba so she plays the role of a consultant but always keep a sean in the loop).

They are both good with answering emails. Katie us quite busy sometimes to get back to you with new data sheets however I like her work ethic and the way she handles the tutors and school.

AAmommy · 12/07/2014 23:49

HI, I am also not happy with consultant/supervisor. Especially lately. I understand some people might not be comfortable discussing it here, so would really appreciate if you could pm me someone you can recommend. I need someone who is good with HF kids and is involved.

Liliuk · 14/07/2014 16:33

I would be happy to recommend Slaveia Christoff, BCBA (she use lots of VB techniques if you know the difference with ABA).

When she comes for for workshops, you truly understand the meaning of what behaviouralism is (and that's for parents as well as the child!).

hydeparkhottie · 15/07/2014 19:14

Hi ladies,

We use Kate Wolf and she has been fantastic so far. We have only had a positive experience of her. She is super professional, reliable and good at providing our family with a sturdy and attainable program.

hydeparkhottie · 15/07/2014 19:15

(we have been using her services from August 2012) and I believe we will be using her for quite a while longer.

AAmommy · 15/07/2014 21:28

Thank you. Would you recommend them for HF kid? I feel like my consultants were good while he was starting the program, but when it comes to social and language and the older he gets - I do not see the same quality...

Liliuk · 17/07/2014 13:13

my son is not high functioning so I wouldn't be able to comment but his level of functioning has drastically improved (and his language), her program is very communication focus, through motivation.
