I know how you feel.

My four year old has a very severe speech delay and if I am far away he would literally shout "MAAAAA!!!". He only says "Ma" if he is looking for me or If I'm out of sight. But at least it's a start.

That's wonderful! So does that mean mini-hazey has said it more than once if you managed to record it?

DD (age 9,'HF'A, selective mutism) spoke to her TA today! It was about her 8th session in a closed room with me and the TA. Actually DD spoke in a funny voice as she was pretending to be her toy camel - but DD/Humphrey the camel said lots.I had to go out of the room to compose myself get a tissue....

These achievements are cheering me up as I am currently tackling the dreaded DLA renewal form for DD.

Well there are no 'm' sounds (he doesn't close his mouth enough) but a definite 'aa-aa'.

I am ashamed to say he has been thoroughly coached by dh, with lots of 'say mama' (the dds call me mama as well) - then this morning when he came to tell me breakfast was ready, dh stood behind him and said, 'say mama' and he said 'aa aa'.

His only noise is usually a back of the throat 'uh uh uh' sound (well apart from screaming - which he has been practicing for the last hour) so this sounds really distinct.

I wish I could work out how to get the video to work, but I guess you can all imagine how huge it feels without seeing it!

I was selectively mute as a child, but felt happier singing or pretending, and then realised I could make people laugh.

I know the feeling! My DS cannot make the sounds vocally, but the day he wrote "Mummy" spontaneously with letter cards was a very emotional one for me. I sent a picture to everyone I knew!

And now he can write all our names on his computer (and because we use text to speech can even nag us: eg if I am with DS before DH gets home I get the computerised voice going daddy daddy daddy constantly!).
