More than words (autism book)

Hi, has anyone purchased this book recently? DS aged two has been referred for autism assessments and I've been recommended this book to help him with his communication/speech issues by other people on Mumsnet. I've found it on Amazon but it is over £70, and whilst I will buy it at this price if there are no alternatives, I'd ideally like it for less! It doesn't appear to be in print anymore and places like Waterstones don't stock it. The library service also doesn't have it available. Many thanks!

AFAIK, it's always been quite expensive.

I was lent a copy by our SALT.

FreshWest · 03/03/2014 18:30

I got ours from Winslow when I bought ours.
A bit cheaper but without going through the process can't tell if it's in stock.
Or there's this on ebay. Would be worth bidding on that one and it's finishing soon.
Good luck

Oooops put same link twice, here is the ebay one correct one

Thanks very much Ouryve and Freshwest. Have found it on Winslow for £35 ish plus postage so think I'll buy it from there if the ebay one jumps up to silly money near the end. Out of curiosity, has anyone watched the DVD that Winslow sell to go with the book? It's over £40 just for the DVD and I'm not sure if it just talks you through the book or actually shows real children and the strategies used.

We used book and DVD; they work together well and are brilliant. DVD shows real families.

WilsonFrickett · 03/03/2014 20:01

DVD very much worth it. It's quite hard to grasp the techniques from just reading the book.

Thomasthetank · 03/03/2014 21:50

Thanks very much! Sounds like the dvd would be really helpful. No clearing the overdraft this month!

Double double check the Amazon book doesn't include the DVD?

Babiecakes91 · 05/03/2014 18:09

Ask your local salt team if they run a hanen course, we are currently doing the 12 week course for free and have the book for free and it is helping my 2 year old with asd lots x

Redoubtable · 05/03/2014 20:52

Have you looked here at getting it direct from Hanen.

A quick google says the combined book/dvd price of $89 is £53.20

Thomasthetank · 06/03/2014 20:23

Thanks, Hanen sadly divert orders to the uk stockist, Winslow, who have very kindly put the price up this morning. Missed bidding on the ebay one.
