As some of you know, I now work part time in the kids' school mentoring vulnerable children in music. I have a "base" for the first time now in the school so I can put a big timetimer on the wall. Officially it's so all the children can gauge when their instrument lessons finish, and I'm really excited because I think the adults and NT children will be converted to its use so it won't be badged just as a SN thing, just as a good thing.

I'm also really optimistic that this is going to open new doors for my student with moderate LD and that he will become an advocate.

the lingle clock is my own wee invention :) It depends on your child being away from the clock for 12 (night) hours. You colour in your clock face in three colours for morning, afternoon and evening and use those concepts first.

Normal clocks are so illogical! I was lurking on the recent maths-teaching thread and it reminded me of it all....

How are your children starlight? It is nice to be remembered.

Lovely idea and how great you are putting all of your expertise to use. Time, oh yes! I think it is the key concept to teach. Without it it is very hard to sequence, and to use the past, present and future. Everything hinges on it. Everything.
Yet most people teaching it have NO IDEA sadly.

DS has been dx (ish - I cba with getting it formalised) with a severe Language Disorder that is supposed to account for most of his ASD as his difficulties are not typical of children with ASD, except for the ASD ones . He's been downgraded from HFA to moderate functioning something because his functioning is moderate I guess.

Gutting after all of our work but still so relieved we did it.

DD is G&T and baby ds has speech delay and we're playing chase the monkey or something with the NHS.

had you known that he "had" moderate functioning something "instead of" ASD, would you have done anything differently in terms of your work. I'm guessing not much....

We are well, the DSs are good. I don't have a disabled child any more, thanks to a combination of biology and my early intervention. He's no more vulnerable than children with other "differences". This has left me with a huge part of my brain and identity threatened with redundancy, so it has all gone into music education, which, like SN education, is crap and needs changing.

Time timer have addressed one of their major faults, which was a crap alarm. They also do a fab new watch which I haven't road tested yet but my colleague has and he rates it v highly.
