I'm going to an open morning next month at the secondary (dd currently Yr 7 so would be looking to start Yr 8). Just wondered if anyone has any experience?
I'm looking for a calm environment, but that could also deal with some behavioural issues.
She's not severe but not really high functioning either. Her main issues are semantic pragmatic language (recently diagnosed) which until now has been seen as her being very controlling, as she often takes so long to process questions that it's easier to deflect by acting out. This has got her grouped with some conduct disordered children and behaviour has gone downhill. With the diagnosis we now have a clearer understanding of what's been going on (I think).
I saw somewhere that HM can deal with PDA, which made me think they could be great for her. Although she may calm down if she's in the right environment and feels understood. I wouldn't say she had PDA, but from reading about it she has tendencies, though it's not something I know a great deal about.
