Sorry if this has been done already.

I'm currently applying for a statement for my ds. I know that schools have 3 years to transfer all statements to the new system but that the changes start from September .

I suspect that I'm going to have to fight to get the support that I want so if I do get the statement I want, will I have to fight again when the new one is drafted?

Also does it have the same legal weight as the current statementing process?

I'm afraid you probably will have another fight about the contents of the new plan, but if you get a statement now you'll probably be at the end of the queue when it comes to moving to an EHCP, and even under the current system you might well be looking at updating a statement after around three years in any event.

We're told it will carry the same weight as a statement, at least in relation to the education element, but time will tell.

Incidentally, it's local authorities who have responsibility for moving to the new system, not schools.

Hmmm I'm glad that I might be at the tail end of the transfer. I think I'm just worried because the head at my ds's school is leaving and has been super so far. I'm worried that whoever the replacement may not be as supportive and then the struggle will be greater.
