VB/ABA - getting started and tutor recommendations - Walton on Thames area

Hi all, we are in the process of setting up a new VB/ABA programme for our 2.7mth-old boy who has just been diagnosed with ASD.

We are working with Duncan Fennemore, first mtg planned for 10th Feb.

Am bit swamped by it all tbh, if anyone can give me some tips on getting started and tutor recommendations I'd be so grateful, I have been reading a lot of old threads but am starting to confuse myself flipping back and forth so would help to gather a recent set of info in one place from those who have been there .thanks in advance xx

I found this book very easy to read and gives a good starting point to understanding it all!

Also I think you can find tutors on the ABA yahoo group.

Not from your area but somebody may come along who is and can recommend a tutor :)

I found this book brilliant when we started our VB programme.

Don't worry - I felt overwhelmed at this stage too, but the hardest part I found was getting the tutors, but once we had them, and after our first workshop (same consultant ) it all fell into place.

We found tutors mainly through the VB Community website and Gumtree (put an ad in the Education/SN section).

If you're doing a full week's programme (ie 25/30 hours) I would aim for at least two tutors. One of them ideally should be a lead/experienced tutor.

Lastly, try contacting Bangor University who run a masters in behavioural analysis as you may find that there are actually current students or recent graduates that live close to you.

Hi....whatshischops. I am a parent turned aba tutor. We ran a full vb program, started under Duncan, and are winding it up now as dd has come along really well and finished her vbmapp. I hv done lots of tutoring with her, play based vb....Duncan is sooooo good at this. I am currently on 3 programs but have availability for 2 full days. Let me know if I can help out.
