Statementing process

We had a meeting with my DD's teacher and the school SENCO this morning. My DD is 5, in reception. Dx of social communication disorder and she has sensory/processing issues plus speech and language delay. She is struggling with most of the learning and has some socialisation issues though is just about managing and is at least happy. She also has epilepsy.

School have added some stuff to her IEP. They have also agreed with us that a Statement would be good but said how difficult it would be to get etc etc.

They have suggested that they (and we) together fill in a CAF (?) and then get DD assessed by the LA Ed Pysch with a view to starting the statementing process. I have done some research and the LA does seem to say that this assessment should be done, though not necessarily if the parents make a request to assess.

I am now confused. On the one hand, I am happy that the school is on board and if doing this CAF assessment helps then will do it, but I dont want to delay matters - or go through something that will be irrelevant to the statementing process.

Does anyone have any experience/information that would help? We are in Haringey by the way.

You can apply yourself. Simply write to the LA SEN Officer (IPSEA have a good letter template) and start the process Smile

You can let the school know and say that you'd love them to do a CAF, too....
